The magnificent 14-mile harbour of Prince Rupert is one of the deepest natural, ice-free harbours in the world and offers a great starting point for a trip to the western coast of Canada. In the few days we spend in Haida Gwaii, we will marvel at the superb old-growth rainforests and appreciate the beauty of Haida culture. In the sea between the islands and the mainland, we will find the Hecate Strait reefs, 9,000-year-old glass sponges, as we make our way to the Great Bear Rainforest, where we may meet grizzly bears, gray wolves and the rare and elusive white-furred Spirit bear.
The Highlights of Leg 13
We will explore the islands of Haida Gwaii, learn about the diversity and inclusion issues in the B.C. salmon and logging industries and look for spirit bears in the Great Bear Rainforest.
