Valérie Courtois

Valérie lives a modern nomadic lifestyle traveling across Canada as the Director of the Indigenous Leadership Initiative, working on strengthening Indigenous nationhood, Indigenous-led land management and on-the-land stewardship, including Guardians. As the former professional forester for the Innu Nation, she directed the Innu Nation Environmental Guardians program from 2003-2009. In addition to her work, Valérie is the President of the Corporation du Mushuau-nipi, a non-profit that creates a space for cultural exchanges with Innu on a site on the Mushuau shipu, or George River. When not traveling, she enjoys being home with partner, Petrina, in Happy Valley – Goose Bay.
