Vanessa Tan grew up in Crofton, B.C. on Vancouver Island. After earning a degree in anthropology and first nations studies at Simon Fraser University, she completed field studies in global education at the University of the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago. As an educator, she strives to ensure that students learn the truth of our nation’s history and believes that reconciliation must be a multi-generational commitment. Vanessa is curious about the unique ways in which everyday Canadians act as ‘artisans of peace’ in their respective spheres, and as an aspiring writer is passionate about community building through storytelling.
