Yesterday, we experienced the enthusiasm, joy and celebration that is the Miawpukek Powwow! Saqamaw Misel Joe, Chief of the Miawpukek First Nation visited our ship and took us on a medicine walk in the woods by the powwow. We enjoyed learning about the medicinal properties of local plants in Newfoundland as well as the tradition of building birch bark canoes. We were absolutely overwhelmed and honoured when Chief Joe gifted the Canada C3 expedition with a traditional birch bark canoe made on the Miawpukek First Nation. What an honour! We will treasure this gift on our long voyage to come.
