Essipit, whose official name is Innu Essipit, is an Innu Indigenous reserve located on the Côte-Nord area of Quebec. This community is enclaved within the village of Les Escoumins. Since 1994, the community and reserve have been known as Essipit, which means ‘the Shell River’. Located on the northern edge of the St. Lawrence River estuary, it is connected to Route 138. Indigenous peoples have been present in this area since 9000 BCE.
