Membertou is an urban First Nation community with over 1,000 people and part of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality. Named after the Grand Chief Membertou (1510-1611), the community of Membertou belongs to the greater tribal group of the Mi’kmaw Nation. With the ship docked at the port of Sydney, we took the opportunity to visit Membertou and Eskasoni, two communities of the Mi’kmaq Nation in Cape Breton. We also had a grand tour of the Coast Guard College, from which our captain Stéphan Guy graduated, and experienced what it is like to be in a ship simulator. We ended the day with a Ship t’ Shore show at the port where we welcomed back the lovely Heather Rankin, and heard from many of our participants about their experiences on the ship. Thanks for having us, Nova Scotia!
