Port Epworth (Tree River)

In the morning, participants took part in a sharing circle. At the same time we sent a scout team up the Tree River (Kogluktualuk). They unexpectingly came across the Tree River Fishing Lodge. We invited the three-person team from the lodge aboard and they returned the favour, inviting us to visit them later that day. As we sailed down the Tree River in our zodiacs, the view was picturesque. We saw Arctic ground squirrels scurrying in the hills, a majestic golden eagle and many ravens flying overhead. We arrived at the lodge to discover, in the words of Canada C3 expedition leader Geoff Green, one of the most beautiful places on the planet. What a spot! We fished and hiked, and we were touched by the warm hospitality of the Tree River Lodge. We then visited a site at the Tree River mouth where both the Canadian Arctic Expedition and local Inuit camped in 1915 and 1916. Canada C3 staff member David Gray shared some of the history of this area with us. We ended the day with a delicious dinner by Canada C3 chef Andrea Carlson. It was a wonderful way to celebrate Leg 10.
