Peter Ross is a toxicologist and a research scientist at the Vancouver Aquarium and Marine Science Centre. He is an expert on marine pollutants, and part of his work concerns plastic waste in the ocean. He is organizing the collection of bottom sediments from the intertidal zone, which will be analyzed for microplastics, now recognized as a serious threat to sea life. Microplastics are a poorly understood source of pollution and Ross’ work will provide an important, pan-Canadian reference.
