Ben Sutherland
Scientist

Ben Sutherland is a University of British Columbia postdoctoral fellow working at the Pacific Biological Station (DFO) in Nanaimo, B.C. His research uses molecular genetics, transcriptomics and bioinformatics to study marine organisms in wild and cultured environments, including salmonids and their parasites and more recently, oysters. In 2017, Ben completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Université Laval in Quebec City studying the evolution of the salmonid genome after a whole genome duplication. In 2014, he completed his Ph.D. at the University of Victoria studying host-parasite transcriptomics of salmon and sea lice, and drug resistance in aquaculture.
