It was a bit of a bizarre sight to see our ship anchored just outside the walls of the 18th century fortress of Louisbourg! All the same, we enjoyed spending a day living life the old fashioned way. We took part in workshops, ate lunch at the local inn and even got to fire the noon cannon. In the evening, the mood turned more somber on the ship as Stephen Kakfwi, former Premier of the Northwest Territories and current Canada C3 participant, shared a video and a song with us about his time in residential school. We felt so honoured that Stephen shared his story with us, and his unforgettable words will undoubtedly stay with the team for years to come. Thank you, Stephen, for speaking about such a difficult time in your life. We were touched, and we remain grateful for your openness. Stephen’s story left us with much to reflect on as we continue this journey, and we continue to work towards reconciliation.
