We just visited beautiful Umingmaktok, Nunavut! The name means ‘place of many muskox’ in Innuinaqtun, the language spoken in this region. This area has been inhabited by Inuit for thousands of years. It is an important historical hunting ground. In the 20th century, permanent homes were built there as well as a school and a cooperative. Today, Umingmaktok is no longer inhabited year-round.
